About the Course
ISO 17025 Lead Auditor Training is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead and conduct successful audits in accordance with the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. In association with our sister organization, Empowering Assurance Systems (EAS), IAS provides this CQI-IRCA Certified ISO 17025 Lead Auditor Training for candidates interested in auditing laboratory quality management systems.
What the ISO 17025 Lead Auditor Course Covers
The course combines the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 with the auditing discipline of ISO 19011, covering:
- The structure of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 โ competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of laboratories.
- General requirements โ impartiality and confidentiality.
- Structural requirements โ the organization and management structure of the laboratory.
- Resource requirements โ personnel, facilities and environmental conditions, equipment, metrological traceability, and externally provided products and services.
- Process requirements โ review of requests, tenders and contracts; selection, verification and validation of methods; sampling; handling of test and calibration items; technical records; evaluation of measurement uncertainty; ensuring the validity of results; reporting results; complaints; nonconforming work; and control of data and information management.
- Management system requirements โ Options A and B, documentation and control of records, actions to address risks and opportunities, improvement, corrective action, and internal audits and management reviews.
- Audit principles and the full audit lifecycle: planning, conducting, gathering evidence, grading nonconformities, reporting, and follow-up.

Training Delivery Methods
Delivered over a 5-day (40-hour) program, with the method of delivery you prefer:
Assessment & Certification
Continuous Assessment: candidates are evaluated throughout the course on attendance, active participation, completion of individual and group exercises, and professional engagement during class discussions.
IRCA Examination: at the end of the course โ whether delivered in a classroom, virtual, or in-house setting โ participants complete the IRCA examination, conducted online. The examination specifications are as follows:
Candidates taking the exam in languages other than English, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, or Traditional Mandarin will complete a paper-based version.
Certification: participants achieving 70% or higher in continuous assessment, plus 50% or above in the final examination, will receive a CQI/IRCA-accredited certificate of successful course completion, recognized globally. Candidates who do not meet this threshold will be issued a certificate of attendance.
